Description:
A PGM file is an older version of Raster Image File (RIF) that is also called a “portable graymap file.” These files are typically encoded using ASCII or binary with either 8-bit or 16-bit grayscale images containing different shades of gray and transparent pixels. These files work across all the popular operating systems, such as Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, and can often be viewed and edited using any text editor. If you are having trouble opening a PGM file, there are a number of software programs that will open these files. PGM files are one part of a group of similar files used by the Netpbm project. This project uses PBM files for black and white (no gray), PGM for grayscale, and PPM for full RGB color.
